About Yale University

Yale University, located in New Haven, Connecticut, is a private Ivy League research university.

It was established in 1701 and is the third oldest institution of higher learning in the United States and one of the nine colonial universities authorized before the American Revolution.

The “Collegiate School,” founded by Connecticut Colony, was established in 1701 by the clergy to educate the Congregational ministers.

In 1716, he relocated to New Haven, where he established Yale College in honor of a gift from the British East India Company governor, Eli Hu Yale.

Initially limited to theology and sacred languages, the curriculum began to include humanities and sciences during the American Revolution.

The university expanded to professional and postgraduate education in the nineteenth century, awarding the first doctorate.

It was founded in the United States in 1861 and became a university in 1887. With the fast increase of the physical campus and scientific research after 1890, its population of professors and students grew.

The initial undergraduate university, the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and twelve professional schools comprise Yale’s fourteen constituent schools.

While the Yale Corporation governs the university, the faculty of each school is in charge of its curriculum and degree programs.

The university has sports facilities in western New Haven, a West Haven, Connecticut campus, forest and nature reserves throughout New England, and a central campus in downtown New Haven.

As of October 2018, the university’s assets included a donation valued at $ 29.4 billion, the second largest donation of any educational institution in the world.

The Yale University Library, which serves all constituent schools, is the third largest academic library in the United States, with over 15 million volumes.

Yale College university students are organized into a social system of residential universities and follow a liberal arts curriculum with departmental specialties.

Almost all members of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, as well as some members of other faculties, teach undergraduate courses, with over 2,000 offered each year. Students compete as the Yale Bulldogs in NCAA Division I – Ivy League competition.

According to Yale’s internal research, ACT and SAT scores significantly predict a student’s undergraduate academic performance.

When students submit scores with their applications, the Yale Admissions Committee considers them in the context of each student’s individual situation and uses them to supplement other academic indicators throughout the application.

The Admissions Committee prioritizes other aspects of the application, such as high school transcripts, recommendation letters, and essays for applicants who do not have test scores.

Competitive candidates, with or without scores, have applications that clearly demonstrate a high level of academic preparedness, a track record of academic success, and genuine intellectual curiosity.
