University of Lausanne UNIL Masters Scholarship for Bright International Students

University of Lausanne UNIL Masters Scholarship is exclusively awarded to students who have graduated from a foreign university and whose academic results are of a very high level.

The scholarship is provided for the minimum required time frame of the student’s chosen programme. With the exception of instances of categorical failure after the first year, it amounts to CHF 1,600 per month from 15 September to 15 July (or 10 months per year) for the entire duration of the master’s (one and a half years or two years depending on the chosen masters).

Each year, UNIL awards about ten scholarships. Candidates are informed that the amount of the scholarship award does not cover the cost of living in Switzerland.

With the exception of the CHF 80.00 in fees that must be paid each semester, students who are awarded scholarships are exempt from the fixed registration fees for the courses.

Eligibility for the University of Lausanne UNIL Masters Scholarship

Before you apply for the University of Lausanne UNIL Masters Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Before the start of the master’s programme at UNIL, a bachelor’s degree from a foreign university is regarded as being equivalent to one from UNIL.
  • to have achieved distinction while you were a student, particularly through exceptionally excellent grades.
  • a language proficiency of at least B2 in French or C1 in English, depending on the language used to teach your chosen master’s programme, on the global scale of the European Language Portfolio.
  • Having not registered with UNIL
  • the CHF 200.00 administration fee has been paid (see the document titled “List of Documents to Attach to Your Application”).

The scholarship will be suspended if a participant leaves the programme.

How to Apply for the University of Lausanne UNIL Masters Scholarship

You cannot submit an application for a master’s degree through the admissions department (SII).

Deadline for the University of Lausanne UNIL Masters Scholarship

To start a master’s degree the following academic year, in the autumn semester or the spring semester if the programme permits, applications must be submitted by 1 November. The date sent will be verified by the postmark.

Applications that are not complete, especially those that do not include certified copies of the requested academic records, will not be reviewed.

Interview date, Process and Venue

  • 1 November: application deadline
  • November-December: Processing of applications by the Social Affairs and Student Mobility Office (SASME) and the Admissions department (SII)
  • December-January: The SASME informs candidates whose application is incomplete or has not been accepted by the admissions department that their application for the scholarship has been unsuccessful.
  • January-February: Complete applications are transferred to the faculties for consideration of their eligibility for the chosen masters degrees.
  • February-March: The SASME informs candidates whose application has not been accepted by the faculty.
  • March: The selection board for masters scholarships selects the candidates who will be offered a masters scholarship.
  • Early April: candidates are informed of the selection board’s decision.
