St. David’s Medical Center (A4CH) offers St David’s Community Ambassador Scholarship every year to students pursuing degrees in disciplines that are either directly or indirectly related to the provision of healthcare services. About $153,000 in scholarships were given to 25 students by A4CH. Students who are enrolled in or have been accepted into a Bachelor’s Level or higher healthcare program at the time of application and are attending a Texas college or university are eligible for scholarships. The prizes are given out for only the Fall and Spring semesters, and they are given out per semester.
This scholarship will be given to a Huston-Tillotson University student who is enrolled in a pre-med or pre-health program, and who intends to apply to a bachelor’s degree program in healthcare or higher in Texas following graduation. In the State of Texas, examples of healthcare programs at the bachelor’s level or higher include physical therapy (PT), physician assistant (PA), nursing (BSN or MSN), pharmacy (PharmD), and medicine (MD). Only one prize is given each year, and it is split equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.
The A4CH’s scholarship program, which was established in 1955, is an important component of its goal. Scholarship grants for students majoring in healthcare disciplines have been given out despite changes to the prizes, focus, and procedure over the years. In 1992, a more organized awards tracking system was started. Scholarships awarded since then total over $1.9million.
