  • Public Policy, Administration, Finance, or Governance directly related to one of the above areas

Renewable energy

  • Geothermal, solar, hydroelectric, and wind energy, as well as energy engineering and renewable energy distribution systems
  • Market reform and sector management, including Energy Economics and Energy Efficiency
  • Public Policy, Administration, Finance, or Governance in the aforementioned domains

New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) provide opportunities for individuals from developing nations to obtain knowledge and skills via study in certain subject areas that will help their home nation improve. After completing their scholarship, awardees must return to their home country for at least two years to utilize their new skills and knowledge in government, civic society, or private sector organizations.

Who is qualified to apply

To be eligible for a New Zealand Scholarship, applicants must complete the following requirements:

  • You must be at least 18 years old when you start your scholarship.
  • You must be a citizen of the nation from which you are requesting a scholarship.
  • Not a citizen of New Zealand, Australia, the United States, Canada, European Union nations, the United Kingdom, Japan, Israel, South Korea, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, or Saudi Arabia.
  • Prior to starting your scholarship, you must have lived in your native country for at least two years. Have a minimum of two years of work experience (part time or full-time, paid or voluntary).
  • It is not acceptable to serve military troops.
  • Be able to meet Immigration criteria for overseas students entering New Zealand or the country where your scholarship will be completed (e.g., medical checks, police clearances/character checks, etc.).
  • Be able to secure an Offer of Place for the intended program of study from the tertiary institute where you will pursue your scholarship, both academically and linguistically.
  • You must not have previously been denied a New Zealand Government Scholarship.
  • Seek a credential that will aid in the long-term growth of your own nation.
  • At the completion of your scholarship, pledge to return to your home country for at least two years.
