Housing Scholarships at Texas Tech University

Housing scholarships are scholarships provided to cover for students’ accomodation. Most scholarships do not cover housing tuition, as a result, University Student Housing at Texas Tech university came up with a couple of housing scholarships to support students in school.

University Student Housing believes in assisting students in meeting the financial obligations of attending college and living on campus. We also provide scholarships to our student staff members to help them work and learn at Texas Tech University. I have five distinct housing scholarships for you.

1. Hilda Alonzo Memorial Housing Scholarship

Hilda Alonzo spent 35 years at University Student Housing (USH) in the Housing Services department. She devoted her career to keeping the residence halls neat and tidy for both students and employees. This scholarship is given to a conventional or non-traditional student at Texas Tech University who works in the USH Housing Services department and has a 3.0 grade point average. This scholarship does not necessitate on-campus residence. This $500.00 award is offered by University Student Housing to students who meet the stipulated requirements.

Requirements for the Hilda Alonzo Memorial Housing Scholarship

  • Continue to be a full-time student as defined by Texas Tech University.
  • To apply for and keep the scholarship, you must have at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • Awarded to conventional and non-traditional students at Texas Tech University who work in the Housing Services department of University Student Housing.
  • The award is renewable as long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA.
  • Accept a photo release from University Student Housing

2. RHA Student Leader Scholarship

The Residence Halls Association (RHA) is proud to provide the annual Student Leader Scholarship program in support of student leaders and their academic performance. This scholarship recognizes the accomplishments of existing student leaders and encourages those chosen to participate further in the coming year. For students who complete the mentioned qualifications, RHA grants a $500.00 per semester ($1,000 total for the academic year) scholarship. Each semester, residency is verified in order to give a scholarship.

Requirements for the RHA Student Leader Scholarship

  • Must be currently residing in the Texas Tech University residence halls.
  • Must be a full-time student at Texas Tech University at the time of application and throughout the award period.
  • At the time of application, you must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • Must be a student leader who makes a good difference in the residence halls. (University Student Staff and paid student leaders are not eligible.) CA, SA, SJA, RT, and RHA are examples of executive officers.)
  • By the application deadline, you must have completed a contract and paid all required fees to live in a residence hall for the following academic year.
  • If chosen, must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the following academic year.
  • The student must have a satisfactory academic status at Texas Tech University and in University Student Housing.
  • If a beneficiary is later hired as a student staff member in University Student Housing, they will be ineligible for any remaining money.
  • Accept a photo release from University Student Housing

3. Guns Up Forevermore Housing Scholarship

The Guns Up Forevermore campaign, founded in 2014 by the Residence Halls Association, recognizes students who have demonstrated their passion for Texas Tech by helping other students through the concept of ‘paying it forward,’ and who have exemplified the qualities of being an outstanding member of the Red Raider community through a consistent display of school spirit.

Students who exhibit the attributes stated above and whose future at Texas Tech may be jeopardized due to temporary financial need will be given special consideration.

Awards will be granted in varied amounts on a rolling basis throughout the academic year.

Requirements for the Guns Up Forevermore Housing Scholarship

  • Nominees must be current full-time Texas Tech University students.
  • Nominees must have a favourable relationship with Texas Tech and University Student Housing.
  • Nominees must live on the Texas Tech University campus.
  • Nominees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.25.

4. Angela Forney Memorial Housing Scholarship

The Angela Forney Memorial Scholarship is given to a first-generation college student who exemplifies the spirit of a servant leader through community service, has demonstrated leadership through organization membership, has a 2.75 cumulative GPA, and is committed to living on campus for the upcoming year. For students who complete the mentioned conditions, University Student Housing offers this $750.00 per semester ($1,500 total for the academic year) scholarship. Scholarships are provided after residency is verified each semester.

Requirement for the Angela Forney Memorial Housing Scholarship

  • Currently live on campus and will continue to do so for the future school year
  • Continue to be a full-time student as defined by Texas Tech University.
  • To apply for and keep the scholarship, you must have at least a 2.75 GPA.
  • Identify as a first-generation college student and be listed as such.
  • Possess demonstrated community service commitment Possess demonstrated leadership through involvement in organizations
  • Accept a photo release from University Student Housing

5. Student Staff Scholarship

University Student Housing (USH) and the Student Staff Leadership Council (SSLC) award multiple $1,000 scholarships to University Student Housing student staff employees. The scholarships will be provided ($500 per semester) if the student continues to work. Any student employee at USH is qualified!

Requirements for the Student Staff Scholarship

  • University Student Housing employs a student staff member.
  • In the forthcoming academic year, I will be working for University Student Housing.
  • Accept the photo release from University Student Housing
