UGA Scholarships for Graduate Students: The University of Georgia Athens College of Engineering is proud to provide UGA Scholarships for Graduate Students on a competitive basis. These awards are intended to highlight the advantages of graduate education while also improving the entire graduate education experience.

UGA Scholarships for Graduate Students

1. Joel Terry Hunt Graduate Fellowship in Engineering

The scholarship is intended to help an outstanding graduate student in the College of Engineering. The recipient must have a strong moral character, as evidenced by community service, volunteering, and/or leadership activities. The Fellowship Committee of the Graduate School will select him or her based on merit, with recommendations from the College of Engineering. Entry-level graduate students who want to pursue an advanced degree in engineering will be given first priority. The Fellowship will be renewable for two years for master’s candidates and five years for PhD candidates (s).

2. The Rowan Diversity Scholarship

The purpose of this UGA scholarship is to foster and strengthen a friendly multicultural learning community within the College of Engineering. A “Diversity Scholar” receives financial support in recognition of their academic accomplishment and capacity to share their diverse cultural perspectives with the UGA engineering community. First-year, transfer, and continuing engineering students at the undergraduate and graduate levels are eligible for this prize. An academic record that displays the potential for academic performance is one of the criteria used to choose Diversity Scholars.

Each scholar must be enrolled in the UGA engineering program during the first semester of enrollment and be a member of an ethnic group that is underrepresented in the College of Engineering. This scholarship provides financial aid that is renewed each semester depending on the scholar’s academic excellence and progress toward achieving an engineering degree.

3. The Rowan Leadership Scholarship

This UGA scholarship recognizes and supports student projects that combine academics and leadership. Leadership scholars are awarded financial aid in recognition of their efforts and dedication to the College of Engineering, the University of Georgia, and the Athens-area community, as well as their academic achievements. The grant is accessible to ongoing undergraduate and graduate students. The prerequisites for becoming a Leadership Scholar are showing excellent leadership and service to the college, university, and community, as well as academic merit.

4. Rowan Future Teacher Scholarship

This scholarship is dedicated to the development of future engineering collegiate professors. The student must be enrolled in an MS or PhD program funded by the College of Engineering and have an outstanding command of written and spoken English. The student must have excelled in a teaching pedagogy class, have excellent performance as a teaching assistant or section teacher of record for at least one semester, and be a teaching assistant or teacher of record while earning the award. This scholarship’s financial help is renewable for a second semester dependent on the student’s progress toward degree completion. If degree requirements are completed within the semester, the scholarship may be prorated. Eligibility to compete for the scholarship in the following years remains open.
