About Evans Foundation

Charles “Chick” Evans Jr., a great amateur golfer, established the Chick Evans Scholarship for caddies. He began as a caddie, won the 1910 Western Open, and rose to international prominence in 1916 when he became the first person to win both the U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Open in the same year. Evans was adamant about keeping his amateur status, and any money he earned from golf went toward caddie scholarships. In 1930, the first two Evans Scholars enrolled at Northwestern University.
