The ACEWM MSc Scholarships Program is now accepting applications from competent Africans interested in pursuing an MSc scholarship in Ethiopia.
For chosen candidates, the prize includes a full scholarship, a monthly stipend of $500 (equivalent amount provided in ETB), and housing expenses.
The Africa Center of Excellence for Water Management (ACEWM) is a joint effort of the Ethiopian government and the World Bank Group, implemented through the Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) Regional Center, which is housed at Addis Ababa University (AAU).
The curriculum is a full-time program using lectures, seminars, and field-based studies as teaching methods. In addition, video conferences and technology-enhanced learning methodologies can be used to teach. English is the medium of instruction throughout the program.

This scholarship is strictly for Master’s studies. If you want to further your education and obtain your Master’s, this fully-funded scholarship is for you.
Host Nationality of ACEWM MSc Scholarship Program
This scholarship is hosted in Ethiopia by Addis Ababa University. It is a collaborative effort of the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the World Bank Group.
Eligibility for the ACEWM MSc Scholarship
- You must have a sufficient command of the English language and be able to demonstrate your ability.
- The age limit for M.Sc. applications is 30 years or less at the time of application.
- The Graduate Admission Test must be taken and passed (GAT)
- You must also meet the general requirements set forth by Addis Ababa University’s School of Graduate Studies.
Requirements to Apply for the ACEWM MSc Scholarship
- On a 4.0 scale, your undergraduate cumulative GPA must be at least 2.75 for males and 2.50 for females.
- If you earned your degree/diploma from a university outside of Ethiopia, you must get a degree/diploma equivalent from the Ethiopian Higher Education Relevance and Quality Agency (HERQA) before being admitted. (During admission, the authentication of academic documents by the appropriate office is required.)
- A cover page with your full name as it appears on your ID/Passport, complete contact information, including residence and postal addresses, email address, and phone number (s),
- A copy of your driver’s licence or passport,
- A detailed curriculum vitae of no more than four pages,
- You must be willing to work full-time in Ethiopia on your research.
- Official transcripts and authenticated copies of prior degrees from previous universities/colleges
- A 500-word personal statement/motivation letter expressing your interest in joining the programme
- If you are working, you must give your employer a letter stating that you will be allowed study leave.
- If you have any professional experience, please provide a certificate.
- Three letters of recommendation from former educational institutions, organisations, and instructors/supervisors

Scholarship Award
- A limited number of full scholarships will be available for qualified applicants, with a monthly stipend of $500 (Equivalent amount paid in ETB). Accommodation is included in the stipend.
- ACEWM MSc Scholarship Program has a small budget to support all award recipients’ research endeavours.

Using a wide-ranging collaboration approach, these activities include teaching, creative research, internships, on-the-job technical training, and community engagement programmes.
The Africa Center of Excellence for Water Management (ACEWM) is a regional centre for postgraduate education, research, and public involvement in water management for Eastern and Southern Africa. ACEWM was founded in 2016 and is housed at Addis Ababa University (AAU). The requirement for highly qualified human resources capable of managing more complicated water management challenges in a holistic, integrative, and transformational strategy is the most essential motivation for developing ACEWM.
Using a broad-based collaboration approach, this includes teaching, creative research, internships, on-the-job technical training, and community engagement activities.
The Center’s mission is to solve particular development concerns in the region through graduate training in Master’s, PhD, and short-term courses, as well as applied research in the form of partnerships and collaborations with other organisations.
